1MDB taskforce to meet on Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR: The special taskforce set up to investigate 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) will meet on Tuesday (May 22) says taskforce co-head Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail (pic).

“We will be meeting tomorrow and we will speak to the press then,” said the former Attorney-General when approached by reporters as he exited the Ilham Tower here on Monday (May 21).

Also with him were taskforce co-heads former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed and current chief commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull.

All left in a hurry without commenting.

They were seen entering the building at 2pm and left at about 3.30pm.

Earlier, the Prime Minister’s office had announced the setting up of the special taskforce to probe the 1MDB case, and to look into any criminal offences by individuals involved in the management of 1MDB.

On a separate matter, reporters have been waiting at the Ilham Tower where the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) were briefed by a number of top officials from various institutions and organisations.
The CEP had been meetings since 10.30am.

However, questions from reporters were ignored or unanswered when pressmen approached the figures for comment at the Ilham tower here.

The CEP had called Finance Ministry (investment) deputy secretary-general Datuk Asri Hamidon and Government investment company division under secretary Datin Rashidah Mohd Sies.

It had also called Petronas president and group CEO Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin, Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia president Datuk Khairul Annuar Abdul Aziz and Inland Revenue Board CEO Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah.
