Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar is the new Terengganu MB

KUALA TERENGGANU: Newly-minted Ru Rendang assemblyman Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (pic) has been sworn in as the new Terengganu Mentri Besar at Istana Syarqiyyah.

Dr Ahmad Samsuri, who is also PAS election director, took his oath of office before Terengganu ruler Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin at 9pm on Thursday.

This comes less than 24 hours after PAS swept up six parliamentary and 22 state seats in GE14.

Terengganu has eight parliamentary and 32 state seats.

The aerospace expert defended the Ru Rendang seat for PAS in a three-cornered fight with Parti Amanah Negara's Dr Zarawi Sulong and Umno's Datuk Nik Dir Nik Wan Ku.

Dr Ahmad Samsuri won the seat by a 6,028-vote majority.

At the ceremony, he also presented 10 names of PAS members who will form the new executive council.

Among them were PAS state commissioner Satiful Bahri Mamat, deputy state commissioner Dr Alias Razak, and information chief Mohd Nor Hamzah.

Satiful is also Paka assemblyman while Dr Alias and Mohd Nor Hamzah are representatives for Bukit Tunggal and Bukit Payung respectively.

Other assemblymen chosen to be executive councillors in the new state assembly are Dr Azman Ibrahim (Jabi), Datuk Tengku Hassan Tengku Omar (Ladang), Ariffin Deraman (Alur Limbat), Hanafiah Mat (Cukai), Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah (Wakaf Mempelam), Dr Mamad Puteh (Kuala Berang), and Mohd Nurkhuzaini Ab Rahman (Kota Putera).

Also present at the ceremony was PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
