GE14: From bullock cart to high-speed train, Bentong moves with the times

BENTONG: From bullock cart to the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL), Bentong has gone through tremendous transformation and development, says Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy.  

The former MCA deputy president, a Bentong boy, said he used to hitch a ride on bullock cart playfully together with kids in the neighbourhood.  

"And today, we will soon have train coming through our town," he said.

Chan was giving a passionate speech at an MCA ceramah at Jalan Chui Yin here - where he grew up - on Tuesday night, the finale before the people go to polls on Wednesday (May 9).  

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai is seeking re-election as a fifth-term Bentong MP this GE14, facing DAP's Wong Tack and PAS' N. Balasubramaniam.  

Chan told the locals who turned up at the event that Bentong would have an ECRL station because of Liow, who is Transport Minister.  

"Liow uses his sincerity and hardwork to serve Bentong. He contributes selflessly," Chan said.

Also at the ceramah to support Liow and MCA's candidate for Bilut state seat Poo Mun Hoong was former MCA deputy president and former Bentong MP Tan Sri Lim Ah Lek.  

Liow's parents and family also made it to the event.  

Liow's father Liow Yu Yin thanked the crowd for turning up to support his son.  

"Vote for Liow Tiong Lai and Barisan Nasional tomorrow. Thank you," he said.  

The event had a carnival-like atmosphere with the people waving Barisan flags and chanting "zhan, zhan, zhan (fight)".

Liow, in his speech, said the Bentong people need positive energy to build a harmonious and united society.  

"I want to bring love and care for all to build a warm and developed society.  

"We reject hatred and negativity," he said.  

The crowd also watched the live telecast of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's address.  

About 500m, Pakatan Harapan also had its final rally, featuring its Bentong candidate and DAP national vice-chairman Teresa Kok.
