GEORGE TOWN: The police made a major bust here with the seizure of RM5.6mil worth of syabu in four separate raids in Penang and Kedah.

Police believed that the drugs weighing 92.6kg were to be smuggled into Sumatra, Indonesia through the Straits of Malacca.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohmad Salleh said six syndicate members, including two Indonesians, were arrested during the raids on Wednesday (May 2).

"We recovered the syabu, which was in a fishing vessel, when we conducted a raid in Teluk Bahang and arrested a man.

"Following the arrest, we also conducted raids in three other places in Penang and Langkawi, Kedah, where five others were arrested," he told a press conference at the state police headquarters on Friday.

Comm Mohmad said RM2.76mil in cash was also recovered and eight luxury vehicles, jewellery and a watch were confiscated.

"The suspects are being remanded for seven days pending investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he added.
