Tough time: Chong comforting Jamaluddin.

SEREMBAN: A father is worried about his daughter who is serving a long jail term in Nepal for trafficking in drugs.

Marina Jamaluddin, 31, has been serving her 20-year jail term since 2015 after she was arrested in Tribhuvan International Airport with 11kg of cocaine.

Her father Jamaluddin Abd Malik, 65, said he was able to visit her daughter in Nepal with the assistance of MCA Youth Chief Datuk Chong Sin Woon, only to find his daughter living under miserable conditions.

“The prison does not provide enough food. We have to pay at least RM500 per month for her food.

“Everything has to be paid, including medical cost.

“She is in bad health and some of her fingers were broken,” Marina’s brother Saiful Faiz said at a press conference hosted by Chong here.

“I hope the Government can bring my daughter back.

“I love my daughter so much. I can’t see her suffer. She is in bad shape,” said Jamaluddin.

Chong said there were previous cases where prisoners were exchanged between Malaysia and another country.

He said he had discussed the matter with the deputy ministers from the Foreign Ministry and Home Ministry.

“We are unsure about the details, whether we can do the same for this case or if Nepal wants to do this.

“But we need a lot more support for Marina, so that we can further discuss the issue,” he said, urging non-governmental organisations and associations to help.

“I hope people in Seremban and in other places can sign the petition online. We can then send the petition to the Nepalese embassy in Malaysia,” he added.
