GEORGE TOWN: Without regard for his own safety, an auxiliary policeman dove into the sea to rescue a 28-year-old woman who had jumped off the second Penang Bridge.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said they received the call at 11.13am over the incident which occurred at KM9.9 of the Sultan Abdul Halim Mua'dzam Shah Bridge.
"Firemen from the Sungai Bakap and Bayan Baru fire station were dispatched to the scene," he said, adding that the operation ended at 12.11pm.
Other agencies that took part in the rescue operation include the marine police and Maritime Enforcement Agency of Malaysia (APMM).
Footage of some men in a boat retrieving the policeman and the woman from water has since gone viral.
