Zaid Ibrahim disappointed DAP dropped Tan Seng Giaw

PETALING JAYA: Former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim (pic) expressed disappointment over DAP's decision to drop veteran MP Dr Tan Seng Giaw from the GE14 line-up, a move he said was also done to him.

"Dr Tan's departure from politics is a big miss, I like him. He was dumped after 30 years, I was done by just after 12 months," Zaid wrote on his Twitter account on Tuesday (April 10).

"It must have hurt him a lot more," Zaid added.

Zaid, who joined DAP in February 2017, said that he has not received any offers to contest in GE14 despite previously voicing his intention to participate.

"I'd rather stay out of it (the general election) as I am a bit old and overweight and not in position to be a good candidate, so it is better if I stay out. My family loves that I am out of the elections," he said.

Zaid added that he doubts he would receive any last minute offers and would not accept them if it happens.

"I am not Superman, I need a couple of months to prepare," he said.

He added that he will remain a DAP member for now and will review the situation after the election.

Earlier in January, Zaid also lamented on Twitter that he was left out of the Pakatan Harapan convention.

Eight-term DAP veteran Dr Tan Seng Giaw was axed from the general elections in favour of two-term MP Lim Lip Eng.

The former DAP Selangor chairman first won the Kepong constituency in 1982 and had been its MP ever since.
