PUTRAJAYA: Civil servants will get a double increment this year, with Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announcing that the 1.6 million government employees will get another increment on July 1 beyond their annual salary increments.
"This was in recognition of your loyalty, support and dedication towards the Government," the Prime Minister told the Civil Service Premier Assembly (Mappa) on Wednesday (April 4).
"You have all helped the Government in serving the people, in executing all our initiatives so that the rakyat enjoys all the benefits.
"This (additional increment) is the Government's recognition of your service," he added.
The additional increment will cost the Government RM1.46bil.
The Mappa gathering, attended by more than 10,000 people, is seen as the last session between the Prime Minister and civil servants before the general election is called.
Talk is rife that Najib will be announcing the dissolution of Parliament this Friday (April 6).
At the Mappa function, the Prime Minister also announced a string of goodies for civil servants, including a new grade, DG56, for teachers effective Jan 1, 2019.
Non-Muslim employees will also be given seven days unrecorded leave throughout their service to attend religious activities.
"Unlike the Opposition, which continuously runs down public officers and plans to reduce the number of those in service, be rest assured that the Government of the day is always committed to looking after your welfare," said the Prime Minister.
