Idris Jusoh: Students of universities, colleges free to join political campaigns outside campus

PETALING JAYA: Students from institutions of higher education are free to join political campaigns taking place outside their campus during the 14th General Elections, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.

“They have the right to engage in politics outside campus. Within the campus, they are subject to university regulations," he said.

Idris added that if students broke university regulations by campaigning on campus, it would be up to the universities to decide on what action to take.

He said this when speaking to reporters after the launch of Taylor's Curriculum Framework here on Tuesday (March 27).

Idris said that the Universities and University Colleges Act had been amended in 2012 to allow students to engage in associations, bodies or groups, including political parties, while off campus. - Bernama
