Dr Wee: UEC recognition always on MCA's mind

SEREMBAN: MCA always has the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) on its mind, said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).

"MCA never forgets this issue. The Barisan Nasional manifesto will be out in early April. Let's wait and see," the MCA deputy president told reporters after launching the Bilik Gerakan (Elections Operations Room) for the Rahang state constituency here.

He was asked to confirm if MCA had suggested that the recognition of UEC be included in the Barisan election manifesto, which is expected to be announced on April 7.

The UEC is a national exam managed by Dong Zong (the United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia) for Chinese private secondary schools.

On Friday (March 23), Dr Wee was quoted in a news portal as saying that MCA is pushing for the UEC recognition to be incorporated into the Barisan manifesto for the coming general election.

"We (MCA) have put it in the draft version, but are not sure if it will be included in the final manifesto," he said.

Commenting on the Barisan manifesto, Dr Wee said the coalition will be consistent in its Malay or Chinese versions.

"We will not have different versions of the manifesto like Pakatan Harapan. Many have pointed out that there are differences in the Malay version as compared to the Chinese version. They were not consistent or some of the issues were deliberately not included in another version," he said.
