‘T and T’ set to challenge Guan Eng

GEORGE TOWN: Penang MCA secretary Tang Heap Seng is set to take on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for the Air Putih state seat.

Tang, the Bukit Bendera MCA division chief, last stood against PKR’s Sim Tze Tzin for the Bayan Baru parliamentary seat in the 2013 general election where he lost by a majority of 19,307 votes.

State organising secretary Dr Tan Chuan Hong will be taking on Lim in the Bagan parliamentary seat.

Lim is expected to defend both seats in the coming election.

Sources confirmed that Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had approved the two candidates.

Tang, a 61-year-old engineer, said he did not “want to jump the gun” as he had not been officially notified.

“I will give my all if chosen and will run a professional campaign giving the voters in the Air Putih constituency a choice and a different approach on how to solve their problems,” he said.

Dr Tan, who is Bagan MCA secretary, was the last-minute candidate for the Bagan Jermal seat in 2013 where he lost to state executive councillor Lim Hock Seng who polled 16,416 votes.

He said if he wins the Bagan seat he would work on the party’s “Bagan Economic Masterplan” mainly aimed at creating more jobs and entrepreneurial activities.

“We have plans to develop the Butterworth Deepwater Wharf, Penang Central and Mak Mandin Industrial Estate which have been languishing for some time,” he added.
