Isa Samad, GM signed power of attorney in Jalan Semarak land deal, Parliament told

KUALA LUMPUR: It was former Felda chairman Tan Sri Isa Abdul Samad (pic) and one of the agency's general managers who granted power of attorney (PA) to a company involved in the Jalan Semarak land deal, Parliament was told Monday.  

"The (granting of) PA was signed by the then Felda chairman and its then general manager," said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Razali Ibrahim.  

However, he said that investigations by authorities were still ongoing and it was not about pointing fingers at this point in time.  

"We have made many findings during the forensic audit and I am here only to answer the questions raised.  

"It involves 240 documents including minutes of Felda's board meetings that were seized to assist investigations," he said in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Fauzi Abdul Rahman (PKR-Indera Mahkota) during Question Time.  

Fauzi had asked the Federal Government to reveal who issued the PA to the company for the land transaction involving 16 plots of land in Jalan Semarak.  

Last week, Felda chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad said that the agency had regained ownership of all 16 plots of land in Jalan Semarak from Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd (SPSB).  

The ownership transfer of the land took place when Felda Investment Corporation (FIC) Sdn Bhd appointed SPSB as its main developer on June 3 2014, and granted it PA to develop the land.  

According to Felda records, the PA was granted on June 3, 2014 but was only reported to the board on Sept 2 the same year.  

Isa Samad was Felda chairman from 2011 until January last year; Felda Global Ventures Holding Bhd chairman from Jan 1, 2011 to June 19, 2017, and FIC chairman since its inception from July 2, 2013. 

Police are currently investigating the case under Section 420 of the Penal Code.  

Razali also said that he could not reveal the full findings of the forensic audit report as it had been submitted to the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
