PETALING JAYA: If Lim Guan Eng has nothing to hide, he should accept the debate challenge by Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, says Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker.
Dr Wee, who is MCA deputy president, had on Monday (March 5) challenged the Penang Chief Minister to a debate over the Penang undersea tunnel project.
Lim responded by saying that he would only debate on the tunnel project with MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai based on the principle of "political protocol".
Ti, who is MCA's publicity spokesman, however, said that Lim should not divert from the issue.
"Lim Guan Eng should not divert or run away from a debate in the spirit of competency, accountability and transparency by talking about party positions," said Ti in a statement on Friday (March 9).
"Whether you're No.1 or No.2 is of no relevance or interest to the public. But whether you and your government is corrupted or not is the primary issue that needs to be debated," he said
Ti added that Lim's refusal to debate with Dr Wee suggests that he is afraid to face the MCA deputy president, who is known for his "sharp and quick mind".
"The next stage is naturally an engagement in a public debate whereby the rakyat will be the judge," said Ti.
"Lim Guan Eng must come clean and be seen to have nothing to hide," he said.
