2,471 apply to Socso for EIS benefits

THE Social Security Organisation (Socso) has received 2,471 applicants for the Employment Insurance System (EIS), said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem.

He said as of Feb 28, 1,336 applications had been approved, with applicants receiving RM600 for three months.

“For the first month, Socso, through EIS has paid RM802,800. The first initial payout was to be made only on Jan 1, 2019 but because the Government is concerned, RM122mil was allocated to ensure the system is effective,” he said.

He said this when answering a question raised by Datuk Normala Abdul Samad (BN-Pasir Gudang).

Riot said as of Feb 15, some 240,077 employers had joined the scheme, involving a collection of RM19,922,407.

He said the EIS also provided training so applicants could upskill and secure new jobs.
