MCA picks Gan Ping Sieu to contest Kluang parliamentary seat

KLUANG: Gan Ping Sieu (pic) has been endorsed as MCA's candidate to contest the Kluang parliamentary seat in the coming election.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai announced this at the party's Kluang division Chinese New Year dinner here Tuesday (March 6).

Gan is Kluang MCA division head and former Mengkibol assemblyman.

Also present at the event were Mahkota assemblyman and state executive councillor Datuk Md Jais Sarday.

The dinner also saw Kluang municipal councillor and Gan’s deputy Datuk Chim Sim Lai announced as MCA's candidate for the Mengkibol state seat.

During his opening remarks, Liow said the presence of many leaders and representatives from local non-governmental organisations at the event showed the efforts taken to gain the support of MCA’s grassroots.

He cited the efforts by Gan and other Barisan Nasional component leaders, who organised townhalls and gathered 30,000 signatures from Kluang residents, to save a bridge and its train station.

The Kluang parliamentary seat is currently held by DAP's Liew Chin Tong.
