PETALING JAYA: Former national goalkeeper Chow Chee Keong has passed away at the age of 69.

Chee Keong, who was also Malaysia's first professional footballer, died at the University Malaya Medical Centre on Wednesday morning.

His son, Adrian Chow, announced the death in a Facebook post.

Adrian said his father had "fought hard and long for a long time to stay with us" but lost the battle at about 7am.

Chee Keong was voted Asia's best by the Asian Football Confederation five times in a row, from 1966 to 1970, and made a name for himself as a professional player in Hong Kong.
