Police to teach crime prevention coursesto residents groups

KUALA LUMPUR: City police will hold crime prevention courses for residents associations to promote better cooperation between the community and law enforcement.

City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said OCPDs in all six districts under him would organise the courses.

“The aim is to get the associations to work even closer with us to keep our city safe,” he told a press conference at the city police headquarters yesterday.

Speaking after a town hall discussion involving the police, the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) and the public, Comm Mazlan said the course would help educate residents on safety, conducting patrols, and the law.

MCPF senior vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, a speaker at the discussion, supported the idea.

On another matter, Comm Mazlan urged the public not to buy or sell firecrackers.

“We arrested three people recently for this offence and will not hesitate to arrest anyone who does the same,” he said.
