“li chun” chinese lunar calendar
JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar let in a large group of Taoist followers to pray for peace and prosperity in conjunction with the Chinese New Year festivities at the gates of Istana Bukit Serene.
A post on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page shows traffic along Jalan Danga Bay, fronting the iconic crown arch of the palace, at a standstill when over 2,000 devotees congregated at the entrance.
Clad in red tops, the worshippers removed their footwear and stood barefooted on the grassy area surrounding the arch to meditate and offer prayers.
Their presence caught the attention of scores of surprised motorists who slowed down to watch. Some even snapped pictures on their handphones.
Alerted about the gathering, Sultan Ibrahim came out of the palace to chat with the leaders of the group and find out what was happening in person.
The Ruler, who has always advocated religious tolerance and harmony under the Bangsa Johor concept, permitted them to proceed with their meditation.
His Majesty also graciously entertained requests for selfies with the religious crowd.
According to the lunar almanac, yesterday was the first day of spring.
