Indira gives thanks for landmark ruling

IPOH: This Thaipusam is particularly meaningful for kindergarten teacher M. Indira Gandhi and two of her children.

That is because her prayers have been partially answered after Monday’s landmark Federal Court decision nullifying the unilateral conversion of her three children to Islam.

“I cannot thank Lord Muruga enough for giving me the courage and strength to fight this case till the end.

“I am confident that my prayers for getting back my youngest daughter Prasana Diksa will be answered soon as well,” she said while carrying a small paal kudam (milk pot) at the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Gunung Cheroh yesterday evening.

She was accompanied by her 75-year-old mother S. Renggamah and daughter Tevi Darsiny, 20.

Indira’s son Karan Dinish, 19, was not there as he is out of town for work.

Indira said her son also wanted to be with her in court on Monday, but was unable to attend owing to unforeseen circumstances.

“Immediately after the decision, I called him and told him the good news.

“He told me he was more confident now about telling people his identity after the decision,” she said.
