PONTIAN: Incumbent Tanjung Piai MP Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng (pic) is set to defend his parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election while new face Tan Eng Meng has been named MCA’s candidate for the Pekan Nanas state seat.
MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai announced this during the launch of Tanjung Piai MCA “war room” here on Tuesday (Jan 23).
He said that MCA was carrying out early preparations for the coming general election.
“Wee has been working hard for the Tanjung Piai parliamentary seat and he has received good response as well as shown strong commitment.
“As for the Pekan Nanas state seat, we have recommended Tan Eng Meng to the Barisan Nasional top leadership.
“We have a strong team in Tanjung Piai and we will continue to work hard to face the election,” he told reporters.
Wee has been serving as the Tanjung Piai MP for two terms since 2008 and prior to that, he was the Pekan Nanas assemblyman for a term between 2004 and 2008.
MCA lost the Pekan Nanas seat to DAP in the last general election after Yeo Tung Siong won with a majority of 2,669 votes.
