MCA: Stern action will be taken against members who sabotage party

KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA disciplinary board has warned that stern and swift action will be taken against members who undermine the image of the party.

 

"If members are found to be undermining the image of the party, its candidates, or other component parties in the Barisan Nasional coalition, stern action will be taken," said board chairman Tan Sri Chor Chee Heung in a press conference on Friday.

 

He gave an example of how some members who were not nominated as election candidates would sabotage the party by telling others not to vote for the party.

 

Chor, who is the former Alor Setar MP, stressed that members should accept the party's decision on its choice of candidates.

 

He also warned that disciplinary issues will be addressed even during the run-up to the 14th general election.

 

"We will not wait until after elections are over before we take action. As long as the board has received the complaint and the case is proven true, the board will take the necessary action according to the party's constitution," he said.

 

Members who are involved in a disciplinary case will find themselves being issued with warnings, suspended or being stripped of their party membership, said Chor.

 

"Discipline is essential for any organisation, political or not," he said.

 

The other four members in the MCA disciplinary board are Datuk Lim Si Cheng, Datuk Tan Kok Hong, Datuk Wong Kam Hoong and Datuk Roger Tan.
