Hin Hua High School receives RM30mil windfall

KLANG: One of Klang’s most renowned Chinese independent institutions, the Hin Hua High School, received a windfall from the family of the late business magnate Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay.

His wife Puan Sri Tan Kai Yong presented a cheque amounting RM30mil to the school management Tuesday meant for six core areas.

The funds will go towards the overall development of the school, its English language training centre, the school’s bursary, teachers and staff welfare fund, the school’s alumni association and Parent-Teacher Association.

In her speech during the cheque presentation, Tan said Yeoh, who was a co-founder of the school and chairman of the school board, had been proud of the school’s excellent performance.

“It was his plan to announce the setting-up of the Hin Hua development fund named after Tiong Lay and me on his 90th birthday in December 2018, but life failed him,’’ said Tan who is a director of the school.

Klang-born Yeoh passed away in October last year due to natural causes.

Tan said Yeoh had been concerned about the school’s future funding needs during the last few years of his life.

Under the condition attached to the contribution, the RM30mil must remain in the bank untouched with only the interest it generates used for the six core areas.

Meanwhile, the school board’s deputy chairman Datuk Lee Peng Hock said Yeoh successfully build a conglomerate and added that he was also a role model in supporting education and public welfare.

“He co-founded Hin Hua High School in 1947, and he also led the school to greater heights,’’ Lee added.
