Two-year-old boy can’t wait to go to school

BAGAN DATUK: Other two-year-olds would be reluctant to get out of bed on cold and cloudy mornings, but Muhammad Nadzim Hafiki Nizam proved to be an exception.

The boy was excited to go to school – not to study but to accompany his brother Mohd Adam Danish Hafiz, eight, who registered for Year Two at SK Tebing Rebak here yesterday.

At 7.30am, the child could be seen happily joining his brother and four other children at the school’s morning assembly, which lasted for 15 minutes, in full school uniform.

The boys’ father Nizam Mat Uri, 46, said his youngest child was so excited about accompanying his brother to school that he was determined to get up early to avoid being left behind.

Nizam, who is from Kampung Tebing Rebak, said he was keen to send Mohd Adam to SK Tebing Rebak despite it being a sekolah kurang murid (school with few students), after his wife’s death about two weeks ago.

“I know this school does not have many pupils, so I hope that the teachers here will give more attention to the children,” he told Bernama.

Mohd Adam, whose ambition is to be a teacher, said although the atmosphere at the school was slightly different from his former school, SK Rantau Panjang in Klang, Selangor, he was eager to study here.

Fellow pupil Dhia Sofea Mohd Redzwan was thrilled to have Mohd Adam as her classmate.

“I’m so happy because now I have a friend in my class, so we can study together,” the eight-year-old said.

School head mistress Siti Norhasidah Mohd Yusuf, who was transferred there last year from SK Seri Langkap, said the school still adhered to the national syllabus despite the small number of pupils.

Besides Siti Norhasidah, the school, which has been operating for six decades, has four teachers and one support staff member.

Siti Norhasidah added that the school recorded 97% pupil attendance last year.
