Pribumi AGM wants Dr M as PM

SHAH ALAM: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) is nominating its chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan's prime minister candidate should it wrest Putrajaya in the coming polls.

Pribumi deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir made the announcement in his winding up speech during Pribumi’s annual general assembly at Shah Alam on Saturday (Dec 30).

“We (Pribumi) don’t want the prime minister position because of glamour. But it is because Dr Mahathir is seen as the most capable person to steer Malaysia out of its problems now,” he said.

Mukhriz also said that the premiership shouldn’t be associated with the number of parliamentary seats that Pribumi is set to contest in the 14th General Election.

“What we want is to present a viable candidate line-up that is supported by the people,” he said.

Mukhriz also said that Pribumi has put an end to all negotiations with PAS, dismissing the Islamist party as “Umno-friendly”.

“We failed to achieve a consensus because they rejected our cooperation with DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah). PAS’ top leadership seems to be Umno-friendly," he said.

“In fact, we are even ready to face three-cornered fights. We are confident because we can win in three-cornered fights,” he added.
