Tanjung Sepat murder-arson suspect to be charged Tuesday

PETALING JAYA: The suspect in the murder-arson case involving an elderly couple and their two grandchildren will be charged in court on Tuesday (Dec 19).

Selangor CID chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat said the 38-year-old man will face charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and Section 324 of the same code for voluntarily causing hurt by using dangerous weapons or means.

“We have referred the matter to the Deputy Public Prosecutor and a decision has been made to charge the suspect.

“He will be charged at the Telok Datok magistrate’s court tomorrow,” he said when contacted on Monday.

The lone suspect in the gruesome fire was brought back to the crime scene at Jalan Tepi Laut in Tanjung Sepat on Saturday  (Dec 16).

The man, who was seen wearing a purple shirt, orange lock-up pants and a hat and mask, was escorted by several policemen.

A deaf mute, believed to be the boyfriend of the elderly couple’s daughter, was earlier arrested and remanded in connection with the case.

The motive is believed to be over a financial dispute.

The suspect, who works at a furniture factory, was arrested on Friday (Dec 15) during a raid at a shoplot in Taman Pusat Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.

Chia Tee Nang, 73, Lim Mai Shak, 68, and their grandsons Ryan Chia Zeng Xi, 10, and Chia Yuan Bin, three, died in the fire on Dec 13.

Another grandson, aged 12, survived the attack and is being treated in a hospital.
