KLUANG: MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has given the party’s blessing for Paloh assemblyman Teoh Yap Kun to defend his state seat during the next general election.

Liow, who is also Transport Minister, made the announcement at a gathering with MCA leaders and the community at a restaurant in Paloh here on Sunday.

He said that MCA's list of candidates has been submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for consideration, and that the party was behind Teoh, the Paloh incumbent.

“We feel that he has done a good job in Paloh and is close to the people, so we have decided to back him as the candidate for GE14,” he said, adding that Teoh had the support of local voters and would be able to continue with his duties well.

Teoh, a 64-year-old retired civil servant, won the Paloh seat with a 103-vote majority in the last general election.
