ALOR SETAR: A father and son have been remanded following the death of an eight-year-old girl who was killed in a freak shotgun accident in Pokok Sena near here.
Senior Asst Registrar Nor Azah Idris granted a seven-day remand order, until Dec 20, for the 50-year-old man and his 15-year-old son after the suspects were brought to court on Thursday morning.
They are the victim's grandfather and uncle, respectively.
Puteri Intan Sharini Mohd Hishamuddin was killed when her uncle accidentally shot her with a shotgun on Wednesday (Dec 13) in the living room of her grandfather's house in Pokok Sena.
The girl was lying down watching television in the living room when the incident occurred.
It is learnt that she was living in her grandfather's house.
Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin in a statement on Wednesday said the victim died from the gunshot to the left side of her face.
He said the shotgun was brought to the house by the 50-year-old suspect that morning to shoot squirrels.
He said that the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
The shotgun, which was licensed to the victim's 80-year-old great grandfather, has been seized.
