Umno will defend royal institutions, says delegate

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno will come to the defence of royal institutions that come under attack – especially if the attacks come from DAP, says Selangor delegate Datuk Zainal Abidin Sakom (pic).

He said it is part of the party's constitution for all members to rise and defend Islam and royal institutions in the country.

"In 2008, our president came under relentless attack but their (DAP's) efforts to run down our president failed.

"Now, they are coming after our head of state and Islam, with Datuk Zaid Ibrahim speaking out against the Sultan of Selangor," said Zainal while debating the motion on education and religion at the Umno General Assembly on Saturday (Dec 9).

Earlier this week, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had voiced his anger and disappointment with Zaid's jab at the Ruler on Twitter.

The Selangor Ruler did not mince his words when he expressed his displeasure at the former Cabinet minister for posting a comment on Twitter that the Ruler should be careful with what he says.
