Unemployed man arrested for alleged rape at plantation

JULAU: An unemployed man has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman at a hut in a plantation in Pakan near here.

Julau OCPD Deputy Supt Bidol Noyeng said on Thursday that the 41-year-old man was arrested at 8pm on Wednesday (Nov 8) after the victim, 31, lodged a police report.

The alleged offence was said to have occurred on Tuesday (Nov 7).

"Both the victim and the suspect are residents of the same longhouse and know each other. The victim told the police that she was raped by the suspect in a hut at a plantation near the longhouse," he said.

The suspect is expected to be remanded on Friday (Nov 10).
