KUALA LUMPUR: The “Datuk Seri” embroiled in the assault case involving three Rela personnel tested positive for drugs, says Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police said the 29-year-old businessman tested positive following a urine test after his arrest.
“He also had a prior police record for a drug offence.
“We will also look into other aspects like whether he is involved in illegal activities,” he told a press conference after attending the Deepavali open house at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters.
On Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s call for police to investigate the validity of the suspect’s Datuk Seri title, Noor Rashid said police would look into the matter.
Noor Rashid also confirmed that initial checks revealed that the suspect did not own a firearm.
“The investigation is still ongoing and the suspect has been remanded until Friday,” he said.
At a separate event, Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San urged police to widen their investigations into the suspect’s source of income, apart from probing the assault.
Speaking after a meeting with police from the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department, he said police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission should also look into allegations that the suspect attempted to bribe the Rela personnel for their silence.
