JOHOR BARU: A drug syndicate believed to have been supplying ecstasy to nightclubs around the city have been clamped down with RM599,100 worth of drugs seized by the police.
Johor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Kamaruddin Md Din said that four suspects including a local woman and an Indonesian man was nabbed at hotel in Setia Tropika on Oct 20.
He said that the arrest led to a raid at a low-cost house in Taman Sinaran Kempas where the illegal substances were stored on Tuesday (Oct 24).
"One of the suspects brought a team of officers from the state Narcotics Department to the house, where 5.6kg of ecstacy pills were hidden in one of the rooms.
"A total of 19,970 pills in 20 packets worth RM599,100 were confiscated, making it one of our biggest busts this year," he said during a press conference here on Wednesday (Oct 25).
DCP Mohd Kamaruddin added that the suspects aged between 26 years and 39 years old were being remanded until Oct 26 to assist with investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.Already a subscriber? Log in
