South Korean man found alive three days after going missing in Bentong

BENTONG: An elderly South Korean who went missing on Friday after visiting the Japanese Tea Village at Berjaya Hills Resort here has been found alive Monday afternoon.

Bentong police chief Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohd Nor said Kim Chae-won, 71, was found about 1.5km from the search control centre at 3pm.

Kim is believed to have survived the three-day ordeal by eating fruits.

"He was found by a stream looking very weak. Scattered around him were remains of fruits he may have eaten," said Supt Mansor.

"The search team and orang asli volunteers put together a makeshift stretcher using tree branches and T-shirts to carry the victim out," he said.

Kim was taken by ambulance to Bentong Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The rescue team comprising the police, Fire and Rescue Department and K-9 units together with local orang asli volunteers and Berjaya Hills security personnel had been searching for Kim since his disappearance on Friday.

"The orang asli noticed an eaten fruit on the ground, and noticed the teeth marks were not of a wild animal. They continued the search until they found Kim's footprints," said Supt Mansor.
