GEORGE TOWN: Penang is expected to get more rain in the mornings for the next five days.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department website, isolated showers are expected in the morning today and tomorrow.

The website also indicated that rain will be pouring down over coastal areas in the mor-ning on both Tuesday and Wednesday while isolated thunderstorms are predicted for Thursday morning.

Fair weather is expected only on this Friday.

Last Friday, floods hit the state and a 59-year-old businessman drowned in a submerged monsoon drain at about 6am.

The man had got out of his car after his engine was waterlogged along the flooded Jalan Tun Dr Awang near the intersection to Relau.

Penang Flood Mitigation Com-mittee chairman Chow Kon Yeow, in a statement on Friday, said 18 areas on Penang island were flooded between 5am and 9.30am.

On the mainland, several low- lying areas were also submerged as the heavy rain coincided with the rising tide.
