MACC wants Umno to lead by example against graft

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has called on Umno leaders to give priority to the fight against corruption and abuse of power, and become a good example to the future generations that will lead the country.

The anti-graft agency said leaders also play an important role in shaping a society that is not only prosperous but also ethical.

Congratulating Umno in conjunction with the party’s 71st anniversary, MACC said party leaders should refrain from indulging in corruption and abuse of power.

“MACC hopes these leaders will take seriously the responsibilities entrusted to them and conduct their duties to the best of their abilities so that the people can enjoy the benefits provided by the Government to them,” it said in a statement yesterday.

MACC said as the party that makes up the backbone of the country’s administration, its leaders play an important role in drafting policies for the development and progress of the country.

MACC also hoped that Umno would support its Anti-Corruption Revolution Movement (Gerah) that was launched on Monday.

The Gerah campaign will be held on the first Monday of every month and will see MACC officers going to the ground to bring about aggressive and drastic changes among Malaysians.

This is to ensure that Malaysians make corruption their number one enemy.

Some 2,000 MACC officers nationwide will become “agents” of this initiative, and will be tasked with meeting the people.
