KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry is considering allowing mobile devices in classrooms as teaching and learning aids, said Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
"We are considering a change in the current policy which disallows devices in the classrooms," he said after launching a series of sports books published by the Institute of Translation and Books Malaysia.
But Mahdzir said a more in-depth study needed to be carried out before the policy shift is implemented in over 10,000 schools.
He pointed out internet connectivity, which needed to be increased, at schools varied and depended on their location.
Mahdzir said concessionaire 1BestariNet has been told to ensure that internet connectivity reached at least 6mbps at all locations.
In comparison, he said, some schools in urban areas had connectivity of between 15mbps and 20mbps.
