Alive and well, thanks to wife

KOTA KINABALU: Li Qun is forever thankful to his wife for stopping him from boarding the catamaran that was supposed to take them to Pulau Mengalum.

The couple from China were supposed to head out to the island and had booked seats for the 9am trip.

However, when they reached the Kampung Tanjung Aru jetty, they were surprised to discover that only Li’s name was on the passenger list. And they were also taken aback at the sight of the packed catamaran.

It was then that his wife decided that they shouldn’t board the vessel.

Following the sinking of the catamaran, Li was listed as among the six missing.

After being told of this, Li and his wife, who declined to be named, turned up at the Kota Kinabalu police station here to explain that they never boarded the boat.

“I am so glad my wife made that decision.

“Things could have gone badly for us,” he said.
