Showcasing the spirit of Malaysia

GEORGE TOWN: By 6.30am, the crowd had gathered, bright and cheery to show that they are Anak-Anak Malaysia.

They grouped in front of the Khazanah Nasional Berhad office at Bangunan U.A.B. in Gat Lebuh China for the walk to show their spirit of togetherness.

It was made even more meaningful as they passed by several landmarks in the George Town heritage enclave.

Student Muhammad Zayd Azman, 18, had his face streaked with the colours of Jalur Gemilang.

“In the end, it was amazing. The walk fulfilled its purpose and the spirit of Anak-Anak Malaysia, which represented all of us,” said Muhammad Zayd, who is the son of Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar.

Pharmacy assistant S. Krutiga, 23, who works at a private hospital, attended the walk with eight colleagues.

“This is a good opportunity for us to bond and spend time together,” said Krutiga.

Her colleague V. Thaneswari, 29, said she was very proud to be Malaysian and living in a nation where everyone could live in harmony.

“I really appreciate our country for its peacefulness. That is something we should never take for granted,” she said.

Both of them also had their faces painted in Jalur Gemilang colours.

Overall, participants were in a jovial mood with many of them waving the Malaysian flag.

Others carried balloons featuring the colours of the flag.

Among the first to reach the finish line was Azman.

He was accompanied by Star Media Group specialist editor M. Shanmugam, Think City Penang chair­­man Datuk Dr Anwar Fazal and Think City executive director Hamdan Abdul Majeed, among others.
