Clear difference between JMF and Armed Forces, says Johor Sultan

JOHOR BARU: There should be a clear line drawn between the roles of the Malaysian Armed Forces and the Johor Military Force (JMF) or Askar Timbalan Setia Negeri, said Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar (pic).

The Johor Ruler said that Sultan Sir Abu Bakar Daeng Ibrahim had established the JMF in 1886 with the purpose of protecting Johor’s safety and the king.

“The JMF was not intended to be the country’s first line of defence, thus the word ‘timbalan’ (deputy) in its name, clearly reflecting its role as the second line,” he said at Dataran Istana Besar here on Wednesday morning.

The Sultan added that no one should attempt to ruin the good ties established between the Armed Forces and JMF.

He also took the opportunity to thank the Federal and Johor government leaderships for helping strengthen JMF as an organisation by approving additional recruitment and salary adjustments that are on par with the Armed Forces.
