Sibu MP says motion to debate kidnapping filed in Parliament

SIBU: An emergency motion on the kidnapping of four Sarawakians was filed in the Dewan Rakyat this morning by Sibu MP Oscar Ling of DAP.

Ling said Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia would give the answer by Tuesday whether the motion will be approved for debate.

"I have filed the motion on the kidnapping case which is a serious one as security in the Eastern Zone of Sabah is still unstable despite the setting up of Esscom," he told The Star Online.

Ling said kidnappings are still happening "again and again" despite the government spending heavily in security with the setting up of Esscom.

Last week 10 Indonesians were taken hostages by Filipino gunmen.

"The government is even increasing the allocation but the result has been disappointing. We need to put a stop to this (kidnapping)" he said.

Sarawakians Wong Hung Sing, 34,  Wong Teck Kang, 31, Wong Teck Chi, 29, and Johnny Lau Jung Hien, 21, were grabbed from their tugboat MV Massive 6 which was returning to Tawau after delivering a cargo of timber in Manila at around 6.15pm on Friday.
