Technician slashed by two ‘cops’

Painful ordeal: Tai relating his experience about how he was slashed by two men claiming to be policemen at the EDL.

JOHOR BARU: An air-conditioning technician who was on his way home from Singapore was slashed by two men claiming to be policemen.

Tai Chin Seng, 32, said one of the two men managed to grab his wallet.

He said he had just exited the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex here on his motorcycle when he noticed them on their motorcycle waiting under the bridge just before the Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) at around 7.30pm on Monday.

He said the two men tailed him closely and then told him to stop his machine while he was heading home to Johor Jaya.

“They claimed to be policemen and told me to stop, but I refused because they wore black slacks with matching jackets and did not look convincing.

“One of them managed to slip his hand into the left thigh pocket on my cargo pants and took my wallet while our motorcycles were moving,” he said yesterday.

Tai said he accelerated his motorcycle and that was when the pillion rider whipped out a parang and tried to slash him.

“He was aiming for my neck but I managed to block the weapon with my hand. My index finger suffered a three-inch cut,” he said.

Tai added that he sped off and took a turn at the Permas exit on EDL to shake off the suspects before stopping at the roadside to wrap his injured hand with a face towel.

“I was bleeding profusely and quickly sped home as I was afraid that they might be following me again,” he said, adding that he lost his MyKad, driver’s licence, ATM cards, about RM100 and S$60 (RM182.40) in the incident.

Tai said he lodged a police report.

When contacted, Seri Alam Deputy OCPD Supt Norazam Shaari said police were investigating the matter.
