Johor PKR leader pleads not guilty to making seditious statements against Selangor Sultan


SHAH ALAM: Johor PKR chairman Hassan Abdul Karim has pleaded not guilty to three charges at the Sessions Court here of making seditious remarks against the Selangor Sultan.

Hassan, who was represented by lawyer Michelle Yesudas, was charged under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948.

He also claimed trial to three alternative charges under Section 233(1)(a) of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998 over tweets in which he is alleged to have criticised Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Hassan is accused of having criticised the Sultan via his Twitter account @hakarim51 for being abroad during Selangor Mentri Besar crisis.

Judge Slamat Yahyaset set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and fixed Dec 15 for mention.
