PETALING JAYA: There is no need for conditions to be set in order for a debate between Tony Pua and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) chief Arul Kanda Kandasamy to take place, says Datuk Seri Noh Omar.

The Selangor Umno chief said Pua's status as a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member made no difference as the most important thing was that the people heard the truth about 1MDB.

Noh Omar also congratulated Arul Kanda on his efforts to regain the public’s trust in the state development fund.

“I support the 1MDB CEO’s statement to accept Tony Pua’s challenge to debate openly about 1MDB. The debate however should be done without any conditions,” he said in a statement on Thursday night.

Earlier in the day, Arul Kanda agreed to meet Pua’s challenge to be interviewed on a “live talk show” to dispel allegations made against 1MDB.

However, the 1MDB CEO said he would only do so if Pua resigned from his position in the PAC “to avoid any potential conflict of interest”.

Pua, who is Petaling Jaya Utara MP, responded by saying that Arul Kanda’s statement did not make any sense.
