PORT KLANG: Some 50 years after he left SK Pelabuhan Klang, Education director-general Datuk Seri Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof is back – teaching.

Yesterday, Dr Khair delivered a 40-minute lesson on the importance of sustainable living and development to a class of Year 5 pupils in conjunction with the launch of the school’s latest Frog Classroom.

“I am pleased to be here to share this lesson with the pupils in my alma mater. The school is privileged to have a creative space equipped with technology.

“I hope it will make full use of the facilities to champion innovation in the classroom,” he said during the launch here.

An initiative of YTL Foundation in collaboration with YTL Communications and the school’s Parents-Teachers Association, the lesson is broadcast live through Frog Connected Classrooms, allowing pupils in Malaysia and around the world to access this real time online. This was made possible via the 1BestariNet infrastructure supported by the Yes 4G network.

Aided by a Chromelab donated by YTL Foundation, the Frog Classroom allows pupils to have access to information far beyond the physical limits of the classroom.

The Chromelab comprises 20 Chromebooks, which come in a mobile Chromecart so that these laptops can be easily charged and safely stored.

Pupils can collaborate with each other or those from other schools and be a part of FrogAsia’s Connected Classrooms, a series of live online webinars.

YTL Foundation programme director Datin Kathleen Chew said technology could level the playing field in the everyday learning process.

Both Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Education deputy director-general Datuk Khairil Awang, she said, were also expected to conduct a lesson, to be broadcast live to all connected schools in Malaysia and those in Australia and India.
