IPOH: A fishing trip for two brothers turned tragic when both fell into a disused mining pool and drowned in Taman Rasi Jaya, Menglembu, here.
A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said Lee Poh Wei, 16 and Poh Jun, 14, fell into the 2.8ha pond during an outing there at about 2pm on Wednesday.
“They had gone fishing there with another friend.
“Poh Jun's line got tangled and he fell into the pond, estimated to be about 9.1m deep,” he said.
“Poh Wei then dived in to rescue his brother but he too struggled,” he added.
The spokesman said Poh Wei's body was found on Wednesday at about 6pm while Poh Jun’s was found yesterday at about 11.20am.
The search was conducted by about 40 personnel, including firemen, policemen, Rakan Cop members and also members of the public.
The bodies have been sent to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for post-mortem.
