Wee tells Negri MCA members to wrest state seat from Opposition

JELEBU: Negri Sembilan MCA has been told to reclaim the Chennah state seat as the party attempts to wrest several constituencies it lost to the Opposition in the last general election.

Party deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said MCA had a good chance of wresting Chennah.

“Double your efforts because I am confident about Chennah. It was our last stronghold before we lost it,” he said when opening the Jelebu MCA annual general meeting at SJKC Yuk Hua on Tuesday night.

MCA lost Chennah – the only seat it held in the state – to DAP in the 2013 polls.

Dr Wee added that Chennah could be recaptured because assemblyman Anthony Loke, who is DAP national organising secretary, was now busy with developments in Pakatan Rakyat.

“Let us relieve him of some work because he already has so much to do,” he said in jest.

Loke, who is also Seremban MP and state opposition chief, won the seat by defeating MCA’s Siow Foo Wen by a 1,098-vote majority.

MCA won the seat with a 1,298-vote majority in 2008 through its candidate Siow Chen Pin.

Dr Wee said the party could reclaim the seat if members closed ranks and put aside their differences.

“You should meet and help the constituents and regain their support.

“We should convince them why they need to vote Barisan Nasional,” he said.

He also urged MCA local councillors to do their bit for constituents.

“Although you are only paid a small monthly allowance, you must be prepared to go to the homes of the constituents and ask them if they have problems.

“Be prepared to get scolded but you must try your best to help them if you want their support,” he said.

Later, Dr Wee announced a RM100,000 allocation from the Education Ministry for SJKC Yuk Hua here for its activities.
