RM1mil reward offer for information on Dr M's alleged misdeeds

PETALING JAYA: A RM1mil reward has been offered for anyone who can provide information about the alleged wrongdoings by Dr Mahathir Mohamad during his 22 years as prime minister.

The Citizens for Accountable Governance Malaysia (CAGM) is prepared to offer "hefty rewards" to individuals who can provide substantial information and evidence that can lead to the recovery of "hidden cash and assets" belonging to former prime minister.

"The reward is worth up to RM1mil per individual, based on the substantiality, authenticity and importance of the evidence that can be utilized by law enforcement agencies to recover these hidden wealth," said chairman Zainal Abidin in a statement on Saturday.

Zainal said that the organisation had carried out its own research and believed that Dr Mahathir managed to stay in power due to his access to "vast fortunes" believed to be hidden offshore.

"There is a very high probability that due to this 'staggering' wealth, Mahathir has remained kingmaker in Malaysian politics even after his retirement," said Zainal.

CAGM also urged Parliament to table a 'black money' bill that would unearth unaccounted wealth stashed abroad by politicians, their families and proxies.

"A special task force must be set up by the Government to find and bring back this 'black money' kept abroad by Malaysian politicians, especially that of former prime ministers and even the current leadership," said Zainal.
