Kane scores twice as Spurs defeat Malaysia XI

SHAH ALAM: Harry Kane brought his Premier League form to Malaysia as the Brit scored twice to give Tottenham Hotspur a 2-1 win against the Malaysia XI on Wednesday.

Spurs did not disappoint as Mauricio Pochettino started with a strong squad with Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane, Jan Vertonghen and Hugo Lloris in the starting line-up.

More than 28,000 fans were there to watch the match as both sides played an open match at the Shah Alam Stadium.

The Malaysia XI came close to scoring the opening goal when Guilherme De Paula's headed effort from a Joseph Kallang Tie free-kick went over the bar.

Kallang Tie, Paulo Rangel and De Paula were impressive in the first-half as they terrorised the Spurs defence with their runs.

Andros Townsend and Christian Eriksen also proved to be a handful for Malaysia's defence but it was Harry Kane who stole the show.

The forward, who scored 21 goals in the recently-concluded Barclays Premier League scored his first goal in the 19th minute when he tapped in a brilliant pass from Eriksen.

Malaysia XI fought back and they got their reward when Thiago Aquino headed Indra Putra Mahayuddin's delicate ball from a free-kick in the32nd minute.

It was a case of being at the right place at the right time when Kane scored again in the 43rd minute after converting a pass from Tom Caroll.

Earlier in the second half, flares were seen coming into the stadium but it did not disrupt the match.

Malaysia XI came close to an equaliser in the 79th minute, but Rangel's brilliantly placed free-kick was saved by substitute goalkeeper Michael Vorm.

The Star and ProEvents International jointly promoted the Spurs visit as part of the AIA Cup Asia Tour.
