KUALA LUMPUR: Sabahans and Sarawakians have been asking for flights within their states to be exempted from Goods and Services Tax (GST) because to them it is an essential form of public transport but the Customs Department says no.
Customs GST director Datuk Subromaniam Tholasy said while flights were a necessity in both states, only domestic transport of passengers for “mass public transport” such as by rail, ship, boat, ferry, express bus, stage bus, school bus, feeder bus, workers’ bus and taxis were exempted from GST.
