Flood situation improves in Terengganu, more evacuees return home

KUALA TERENGGANU: The flood situation in Terengganu is improving with more victims allowed to return to their homes. 

According to the National Security Council Terengganu portal, 1,303 flood victims were still housed at the relief centres as of 9am, Sunday compared to 1,521 on Saturday. 

"From the number, 1,286 victims from 324 families are from Kuala Terengganu and 17 (six families) from Marang," it said. 

In Kuala Terengganu, the two flood relief centres at Sekolah Kompleks Gong Badak and Sekolah Kebangsaan Tok Jiring are still open, while in Marang, the relief centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Pasir Puteh is still operating. 

The flood waters in Dungun district have also subsided and the relief centres closed on Saturday. 

The water levels in the main rivers in the state are also at normal levels. 

In Kota Baru, the water levels in the main rivers in Kelantan are no longer at dangerous levels and only 25 victims remained at the relief centre in Pasir Puteh as of 9am, Sunday.

According to the state government's official portal, the five families were housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Wakaf Raja. - Bernama
