Selangor MB crisis: DAP apologises to Selangor Sultan

Party secretary general Lim Guan Eng

PETALING JAYA: DAP has apologised to Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah for submitting only one name for the mentri besar post to the palace.

Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's name was submitted as the sole candidate following a consultation with PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"We understood that the decision was based on previous conventions, as practised during the appointment of (current MB) Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim in 2013, as well as statutory declarations from a majority 30 out of the 56 state assemblymen supporting Dr Wan Azizah," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He reiterated DAP's loyalty to the royal institution and said the party would consult again with Anwar on the decree made by the Sultan.

On Monday, Sultan Sharafuddin expressed his disappointment with PKR and DAP for submitting only one candidate for the MB post when he had earlier requested for more than two names.

In a statement via his private secretary Datuk Mohd Munir Bani, the Sultan said DAP and PKR's actions showed arrogance to the royal institution and also derhaka (disloyalty).
